Toward Your New Smile: What Veneers Feel Like Throughout the Process

When it comes to getting an aesthetic smile you love, you may be looking at the many treatments out there. After considering your options, veneers might’ve stood out as they can fix a wide range of flaws at once. However, since these shells are placed on the front of your teeth, many people don’t know what they can expect them to feel like. Here’s what you need to know and how they may be more comfortable than you imagine.

What Will It Feel Like to Get Veneers?

It takes two appointments to get to your final results with veneers. The first involves preparing your teeth, which is done by removing a thin layer of your enamel. Many people assume this will hurt, but your dentist will numb your mouth beforehand. You shouldn’t feel outright pain, but maybe some pressure instead.

Once this part is done, you’ll have impressions taken, which are sent to a dental lab where they will craft your veneers out of a high-quality material. A skilled artisan takes about two weeks to do so, meaning you’ll need a temporary set bonded on in the meantime.

These help protect your teeth while you wait, but patients often say they feel just a bit bulky. They should still be comfortable, but they’ll give you a sense of what your final cosmetic work will look like.

What Will My Permanent Veneers Feel Like?

Your veneers will get sent to your dentist, and you’ll need to have your second appointment to get them placed. After your visit, you can show off your results, but you should expect some sensitivity at first. This is normal after having both the temporary and final set bonded on, but thankfully, it should go away more each day. Just be sure to call your dentist if it’s worsening.

That being said, if you are changing the shape of your teeth with these customized shells, then you may notice a bit more of a difference. Your mouth and tongue will need to adjust to them, which can take a short couple of weeks. Give yourself grace, and they will feel just like normal in no time.

In the end, veneers are made to get you to an aesthetic smile you love while feeling entirely comfortable. They should feel just like natural once you are used to them, so you may not even notice them when eating and talking. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy the newfound confidence you deserve.
