United Concordia Coverage Availability & Fees

Most dental insurance plans from United Concordia provide coverage that works something like this:

  • 100% coverage for routine oral care such as X-rays, cleanings, and checkups
  • About 80% coverage for minor restorative care such as gum disease treatment and fillings
  • About 50% coverage for major restorative services like dentures, bridges, and crowns
  • Generally, no coverage for elective procedures like most cosmetic dental treatments

An HMO policyholder will probably have to see an in-network dentist to qualify for coverage, but they may not have to deal with any more restrictions than that. A PPO policyholder, on the other hand, can usually see any dentist they like and still qualify for some coverage, but their plan will probably impose restrictions like:

  • A waiting period before coverage begins
  • A deductible that must be met before the plan starts paying for anything
  • An annual maximum that defines how much money the policy can pay in a year

Higher premiums for PPO plans are typically associated with more favorable terms.
